Blizzard Says Overwatch Has 7 Million Players

Blizzard Entertainment says Overwatch has over 7 million players. The futuristic team shooter was released in May 2016. Blizzard also says over 119 million hours have been logged since the game's release. The game is available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, says in a statement, "Over the months and weeks leading up to release we saw a lot of love and support for Overwatch— from Blizzard gamers, FPS fans, and people who'd never picked up a game like this before—and we're very grateful for everyone’s incredible passion and enthusiasm. We poured a lot of effort into creating a game-and a new universe-that anyone could enjoy. We’re ecstatic to have had such a successful launch, and we're looking forward to all of the fun, competition, and new content still to come."
Overwatch is set on Earth in the near future. Teams of players battle for control of key hotspots around the world. There are 21 different heroes for players to choose from in the game. Players can also play against computer-controlled opponents. Loot boxes in the world contain credits, skins, sprays, voice lines, and new animations. Loot boxes can also be purchased.
