Crowds, Riots Over PS3 Launch

Posted on November 20, 2006

The PlayStation 3 launched to huge crowds this week. The situation was not peaceful at some stores where near riots were reported.

It was almost like a scene out of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: Sony's new Playstation 3 went on sale in the U.S. and near riots broke out. One person was shot. One ran into a flagpole and was injured during a melee. Some people waited outside stores for up to three days to be first in line to buy the gaming system.
Kotaku points to a video of someone being pushed into a flagpole at Wal-Mart. Joystiq has a roundup of indicidents which included robberies, beatings, stampedes and muggings. Now that the PS3 launch riots are over and PS3s are likely impossible to get in stores thanks to the shortage everyone will have to turn to eBay where special console sales rules have already been posted.
