EverQuest Game Is So Addictive It Causes Divorce
Posted on February 17, 2003
For some people playing games can lead to addiction, which can then lead to divorce. For one popular massively multiplayer online fantasy game, EverQuest, there are even support groups for women available, such as Spouses Against EverQuest and Everquest Widows. It is disturbing that people would play a game so much they ignore their families. People are eventually going to want a divorce if their spouse plays an online game so much that they ignore practically everything else.
According to Wired, some people refer to the game as "EverCrack" because of its addiction qualities. Not everyone becomes addicted, but for those who do it means playing the game for five hours a day or more. Wired also says one player did not sleep during his first week playing the game. If you are not sleeping so you can play some video game then you should probably destroy the game discs.
The news about EverQuest addiction is not new. Wired also offered an article in 1999 warning that "Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, they're all losing their personal lives to EverQuest."
