PlayStaton's Ten Year Run
Posted on December 6, 2004
PlayStation, which earlier this year sold its 100 millionth PlayStation, has been the dominate game system for over a decade BBC News reports in a recent article. A recent survey suggested that half of game system buyers will be purchasing a PlayStation 2 gaming system this holiday season -- so the dominance by Sony's PlayStation will continue into 2005.
Xbox, however, is looking like a strong contender for second place and a challenge to PlayStation as the Halo 2 game drives up sales for Microsoft. Part of the success of PlayStation has been the wide variety of games and the trend of gaming towards adults and not just kids. PlayStation managed to grow up with its players and keep them hooked while continuing to appeal to new young gamers at the same time. Guardian games blogger Aleks Krotoski told the BBC, "PlayStation introduced the idea that gaming can be for grown-ups."
