Top Sales in First Half of 2006

A report from the NPD Group retail found that sales of U.S. console and portable video games hardware, software and accessories increased 21% during the first half of 2005 (January - June), compared to the same time period last year. Video games industry sales climbed to $4.1 billion in the first half of the year compared to $3.4 billion in the first half of 2004. The PC game software category continued to decline, with revenues from retail sales down 10.5% percent, grossing $405.4 million in the first half of 2005 versus $453.3 million during the same period in 2004. However, the total game software market, which includes software for consoles and portables as well as PC game software, sold through $2.8 billion, a 9.2% percent increase over last year's $2.5 billion.
